Who's With Horace?

Today in my math classes, after a quick quiz, students were given the challenge problem, "Who's With Horace?" Working with a partner, students were given four clues to help them figure out who came with whom to a party. The clues only gave part of the information so students needed to use logical problem solving to figure out the order. If they got the "Horace" problem correct, they moved on to solve "Photo Line Up" in the same manner. For this problem they needed to figure out the order of the students in a class photo. Unfortunately, time ran out - we will continue next week so everyone will get a chance to solve these fun, challenging problems!

Can you think of a "Who's With Horace?" problem? Try to and put it in the comment section - we will try to solve it in class!

  3. Dear Emily,
Whose's With Horace is a classic math problem. The names can be changed to anyone to make it more fun. If you want to try the problem let me know and I will give it to you to try.

  4. Hi!
I saw that Eric made problems for homework and that looked like fun so I decided to make my own:

There are 4 kids named Joe, Frank, Kevin, and Nick. Each of them got something to eat(Including pizza, chicken nuggets, a taco and a burger) and drink (Including chocolate milk, gatorade, lemonade and milk) for lunch. Can you tell which person got which item to eat and drink?
    Clues:
Joe, the person who had chocolate milk, and Nick did not have a burger.

    Frank LOVES tacos (Gimme one)

    Joe's best friend had chicken

The person who had Pizza had gatorade for a drink

Kevin didn't have chocolate milk or lemonade!

    Here are the answers:

    Joe: Pizza and gatorade
    Frank: Taco and chocolate milk
    Kevin: Burger and milk
    Nick: Chicken nuggets and lemonade

I hope you like my question

  6. Dear class,

Since everyone started making logic problems I have decided to make one myself. Here it goes.

Anna, Kathryn, Shania, and Olivia are all in a dance recital. The classes are hip hop, ballet, jazz, and tap. The different types of dance uniforms are sparkly, stripes, neon, and spirals. Find out who had which dance and dance uniform. ( nobody had the same dance/dance uniform.)

    Here are the clues:

    Kathryn loves ballet.

Both Anna and Shania's uniform name start with SP.

Shania and the person who took hip hop both hate jazz and sparkles.

    Ballet uniforms are never neon.

Neon uniforms are normally either for tap or hip hop.

  8. Dear Mrs. MacConnell,

Hi, it's Isabel from your PM math class. I decided that I wanted to make two "Who's with Horace" type of math problems, so here it is:

Lauren, Tara, and Billy are all on the same soccer team. When they choose they're numbers, they're choices are 12, 19, and 20. Find out what number each person has.

    Lauren's number is not 12.

    Tara's number is even.

    Billy is number 20.

That one is pretty easy, but here is another one.

Reilly, David, Kate, Joe, and Sarah go to an ice cream shop. They have to wait in line to buy each it. Figure out what order the line is.

David is not the first one in line.

Sarah is next to Joe and Kate.

Reilly is the last one in line.

David is next to Reilly in line.

    Kate is in the front.

They're both pretty easy, but I think they all make sense.

And Anna does jazz and wears a sparkley uniform :D

  12. Hi everyone! I've read all your Logic problems and tried to solve them. They are all fun and challenging! I've even made one up myself:

Four friends; Laura, Kate, Amber, And Cecile each like songs from the following music artists/bands:

    ~Hey Monday :D
    ~Owl City :D
    ~Taylor Swift :)
    ~Green Day :)

(Owl City and Taylor Swift are artists and Green Day and Hey Monday are bands.)

~ Kate thinks Owl City's songs are okay but Taylor Swift is by far the best ARTIST.

~ Laura sat next to the person who likes Hey Monday and the person who likes Green Day on the bus.

    ~ Cecile likes an artist.

~ Amber does'nt like Hey Monday.

~ Laura disagrees with Kate's opinion.

Hope you guys liked it and enjoyed solving it.

    sincerely:
    Cindy $.^_^

  13. The problem can't be solved . This is true because Taylor Swift is an artist and Kate likes her. The problem is that if Laura sat next to the person who likes Green Day and Hey Monday and Kate likes Taylor Swift than the only person left is Owl City. That eliminates all the artist. After that at about the end it states that Cecile likes an artist but, the artist are already taken by Kate and Laura. That is why this is impossible.

Ashanti found the top five bands in Whateveryoucallit Land. They were called Ironicca, Hawks, Terrasmith, Pathways, and LOL. Here are some clues to help you figure out in which order the bands are in.

    1. Terrasmith came before Hawks but immediately after Ironicca.

    2. LOL is in 4th.

    3. Pathways was better than LOL.

In which order are these bands in???
